Top Ten Words/Topics That Will Make You NOT pick up a book

Top Ten Tuesday is, as always, hosted by the folks over at The Broke and The Bookish.  This week is all about the words/topics that make a book a no-go for me.  Normally, I'm a never-say-never sort of girl when it comes to picking books, but there are some no go areas for me, such as words that scream chick-lit.  However, if anyone knows any good books that manage to subvert the words on my list, then please recommend them to me!

1. Shopping

2. Shoes
3. Love Triangle
4. Wedding
5. Honeymoon
6. Pink
7. Steamy
8. Nails
9. Brooding
10. Poodles

What words/topics are no-goes for you?  Do we share any?

    1. Maybe I could be convinced to read a book about a small zombie poodle!

  2. Are there really books about poodles out there? If so, I don't blame you for avoiding them. They're just weird.

    1. I have no idea! They just popped into my head when I was thinking about the types of things I wouldn't want to read about! Now I'm interested to know if there's any fiction books about poodles, and who the readership would be?!

  4. So basically, nothing too overly girly? I agree 100%

  5. Ohhh! Brooding people give me the creeps!! I always imagine them coming up and trying to stab me in the back! *shiver* I love your list! Poodles, pink and shoes are total book turn offs....especially shoes...one time I tried reading this book where the main character was obsessed with shoes....I think I made it through the first paragraph.... :)

    1. Thanks :)

I never thought about brooding people doing that! Now I'll be wondering what they're really thinking about?!

  6. Awesome. Nope, got nothing for you. Steamy Pink Poodles in Love? Actually, I guess I know of one shoe book that might be tolerable (In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner -- haven't read it, but I've read other books by the author and they were pretty good.)

    1. That's a great title for a book. Admittedly a book I would never pick up, but a great name nonetheless!

Will have to check out In Her Shoes. Is it the source material for the movie with Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz by any chance?

  7. Oh my goodness, I love your list! Shopping books are an automatic turnoff and a book about poodles? No thanks.
I'll avoid wedding books too. I'm not too big into the whole wedding planning stuff.
    Awesome list! :D

  8. Haha great list. I'm definitely not one for chick-lit or overly girly things, so I can agree with these. Especially Shoes and Shopping! Eek! I'm so not a girly girl.

    1. Me either! The one girly thing I indulge in is 90's/00's chick flicks (like Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You) and that's about it. Other than my fear of spiders and love of chocolate...

  9. UGH, love triangles! Another reason why I avoid a lot of YA & chick-lit, because that plot device is SO overused. Great list :)

    1. Thanks :) I wish there was a ban on love triangles...but then there'd probably be an increase of love squares!
